The New Mexico Public Education Department, Coordinated School Health and Wellness Bureau is excited to announce that their 2017 Regional School Health Education Institute (SHEI) will be held October 24 & 25 in Farmington, New Mexico. 

Focusing this year on Youth at Risk, the Institute is designed to ensure staff return to school with new tools to improve the health and academic success of your students.  Experts will share activities, tools and resources to use in your classrooms.  Attendees can choose from a variety of sessions covering topics such as trauma informed care, teens and opiates, suicide prevention, youth health literacy, college readiness and coping with grief. Plus, they’ll come away with a flash drive with handouts and resources. 

Who May Attend?

While our primary audience is middle and high school health educators, PE teachers, counselors, nurses and school administrators are welcome to apply.

How Can I Attend?

There is NO COST to attend this exceptional training opportunity and we will cover the expense of lodging, substitute pay and breakfast/lunch both days.  You just need to get there and commit to the two full days of training. 

Only 100 spaces are available and we are inviting all school districts in northern New Mexico to participate.  You must APPLY first to be considered for one of these slots. The application closes at 5:00 pm on September 22, 2017.

Lodging:  The institute will cover the cost of lodging for two nights (shared accommodations) for individuals who LIVE more than 45 miles outside of Farmington, NM.  Once accepted, a reservation will be made on your behalf at the host hotel.

Sub Pay:  The Institute is covering the cost for up to two days of substitute pay. You will receive a reimbursement form at the conclusion of the Institute to provide to the individual in your school/district that is responsible for accounts receivable. The form will include detailed instructions on what is required by the Institute office to pay for the substitutes. Please note, substitute pay reimbursement forms will only be distributed at the end of the conference.
